On Friday 8 November, Toby Buck from Te Mata Estate is coming to Geneva to host a winetasting in the cellars of a private wine club. Toby will lead a tasting of Te Mata's fine wines - including the legendary Coleraine.  Wines will be served alongside a selection of cheeses and charcuterie.

Toby grew up at Coleraine, planting vines and working in Te Mata’s cellars. When still young he travelled with his parents to meet agents, coopers, and winemakers in Europe. He’s worked many vintages at Te Mata, and from Bordeaux to Chile, to Greece, Portugal, and Argentina. He completed an MSc at Edinburgh and is a fan of a good book and a good wine. In 2014 he won the Mansfield short story award and in 2019 NZ’s top essay prize.

Since 2016 he’s been responsible for sales in Te Mata’s biggest markets and running Showcase tastings. Now based in Amsterdam, Toby’s currently developing sales in Europe, the UK, and Dubai.

Te Mata Estate was established in 1896, in the Hawke's Bay, on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It was originally part of Te Mata Station, a large pastoral land-holding, but in 1892 Bernard Chambers experimented, planting three vineyards on the north-facing hills around Havelock North.  These same vineyards are used today.

The Chambers family sold the property in 1919. Te Mata Vineyards was established and the property had two other owners until it was acquired by the Buck and Morris families in 1974. These two families transformed the vineyard into an internationally recognised superstar, a renowned producer of world class wines.

Te Mata's flagship wine, Coleraine, is arguably New Zealand's most famous red wine.  First produced in 1982, it is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc that displays the concentration, complexity and elegance found in the world's finest wines. This is a collectable wine with a long future that rewards patience in the cellar. Other standout wines from the Estate Collection are the Elston Chardonnay, the Awatea Merlot blend and the Bullnose Syrah - we look forward to tasting them with you!
